Dwight W. Allen and his associates at Stanford University invented the teacher-training method known as micro-teaching in 1963. The approach of microteaching can be used in various pre-service and in-service phases of a teacher's professional development. Since its debut in the 1960s, micro-teaching has been successfully employed for many years as a method of assisting teachers in the acquisition of new skills. In many colleges and school districts, it is now considered standard practice for the preparation of teachers (Ping, 2013).
